Charles R. "Bunky"'s Story
Charles R. "Bunky" McKay, Jr., son of Charles R. McKay, Sr. and Annabelle Chadwick, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Kaplan House on August 1, 2016.
Bunky served two years in the U.S. Army, and four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Midway, and the submarine, U.S.S Cobbler. He was employed by B.F. Goodrich, and Gorton's of Gloucester, and after 14 years of retirement, he returned for seasonal work at the Gloucester D.P.W. Parks Department. He was a lifetime member of the Gloucester Elks, Post 892, and AMVET's Post 32.
Bunky leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; children Jackie (wife of Bill Sanborn), Jill (companion of Jack McKay), Holly Dougwillo, and Chris McKay and his wife, Pam; his brother, Henry "Bud" McKay and his wife, Grace; sister, Joan Fennessey, and brother-in-law, Joseph Polizzia; grandchildren, Ashley and Bryan Sanborn, Taylor Dougwillo, and Allie and Sydney McKay.
Binky, as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, loved life, family, and a good joke. He was never at a loss for words and always saw the humor in any situation.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Collin Jay; sister, Nancy Polizzia; brother, Jack; and his wife, Cathy McKay.
There will be no visiting hours and burial will be private. Contributions can be made in his name to the Kaplan House, Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
