Cheryl A. (Flygare)'s Story
Mrs. Cheryl A. (Flygare) Gossom, 69, of Gloucester, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday morning, September 26, 2017. She was the loving wife of Retired Gloucester Firefighter, Kenneth J. Gossom with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.
Cheryl was born May 9, 1948, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Louise (Wheeler) Azevedo and her husband, Frank, as well as her late father, William Flygare, Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester, as well as a graduate of Gloucester High School.
Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed hosting birthday parties for her family and her home was always the gathering place for holiday dinner. She was an avid bingo player and she and Kenny enjoyed taking their family on camping trips and always enjoyed going out to eat. She will be missed by all who loved and cherished the time she shared with her.
In addition to her loving husband, Kenneth, Cheryl is survived by her son, Gloucester Police Lt. Michael K. Gossom and his companion, Hannah Clay of Rockport; her stepchildren, Debra Beauregard and her husband, Marc and Kenneth J. Gossom, Jr., all of Gloucester; her brother, William Flygare, J., and his wife, Joyce of Gloucester; her sister, Penny Riley and her husband, James of New Hampshire and Florida. She is the cherished grandmother to Alicia Beauregard, Leslie Makin, Tanya Gossom, Amanda LoCoco, Madeline, Emily, Emmett and Mason Gossom and their mother, Alycia. She is also survived by her nine great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins including two special cousins, Margorie Melanson and Marsha Cressey.
Cheryl’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester, Mass., on Sunday evening, October 1, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be in the Cape Ann Bible Church, 8 Thompson Street, Gloucester, Mass., on Monday morning, October 2, 2017, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Wesleyn Cemetery, Gloucester, Mass.
