GLOUCESTER, MA: Grant, David William, 73, died suddenly January 24, 2016 at his home in Gloucester. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Morton Grant, MD and Jeanette Poirier Grant, of Winchester.
He is survived by a brother, Jeffrey Morton Grant, MD (Anne Ayles Grant) of Phoenix; and a sister, Jeanne Grant Ancarrow (N. Hopper Ancarrow, Jr.) of Richmond, Va.
He attended Phillips Academy Andover, where he held the school record in the discus, and the University of Colorado. He found his greatest interest in the world of art, initially oil painting and etching, later moving into the production of custom knives. He was a wonderful writer and one of his passions was voluminous reading of fine literature and military history in particular. He loved being on or near the water and did a fair amount of ocean fishing in his younger days. He loved Mother Nature and was thoroughly informed about the flora and fauna around him. We wish to thank those who were so kind to him. Burial will be at a private service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or charitable contributions it would please David if you would take your family to dinner.
