BYFIELD, MA: Donald Sturgis Woodbury, Sr., 93, longtime Byfield resident, passed quietly at The Meadows Healthcenter at Edgewood in North Andover. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane (Mann) Woodbury, who passed on May 4, 2011.

Born in Beverly on November 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Percy and Bertha (Cottle) Woodbury and was a graduate of Salem High School and Bentley College.

After retiring from a successful 27-year career at General Electric, Don embarked on his second calling as a real estate investor and manager, acquiring properties around the New England area. He served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for the Salem/Beverly area, during the time of WWII, was a member of the National Association of Accountants (IMA), served as a Notary Public, was a member of the Newburyport Lions Club, and a Rotary Club member.

In his retirement, he and his wife, Jane, traveled extensively from Australia to Great Britain. They then put down winter roots in Palm Springs, Calif., where family and friends visited often.

He is survived by his son, Donald S. Woodbury, Jr. and partner, George Labovites of Marblehead; daughter, Susan J. Bates and husband, James of Rockport; daughter, Abigail M. Woodbury of Brookline; son, Mark Woodbury and wife, Tara of Byfield; his grandsons, Andrew, Daniel, and Michael; his sister-in-law, Shirley Mann Creesy, and several nieces and nephews. His outgoing personality and inquisitive nature netted him lifelong friends from near and far. And his enthusiasm, kindness and loyalty made him beloved.

Funeral services will be held at Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb Street, Newburyport on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. Following the services, everyone is invited to attend the reception in the Church Hall.
