Donna F.'s Story
Donna F. (Farson) Leonardi, 72, of Rockport, wife of James Leonardi, passed away in the Beverly Hospital on Sunday evening, July 30, 2017.
Donna was born in Mount Claire, N.J. on May 5, 1945, the daughter of the late Donald C. and Marjorie (Kestner) Farson. She graduated from Verona High School in New Jersey and then married and raised two children. She was a horse aficionado in her teenage years, and worked diligently at a boarding stable. She was an animal lover through and through, and she enjoyed painting still life in pastels. Donna spent summers in Lanesville for many years, vacationing at the cottages her grandparents owned at Lanes Cove. Donna had many jobs over the years to help out with raising the family. She had worked as a teller at Bank of New England, she received her CNA and was a nurse’s aide at Den Mar Nursing Home and she drove a van for special needs children. The ocean in Lanesville and Rockport beckoned to her and she finally settled down with her husband in Rockport some 30 years ago. She became quite the historian about Rockport and Lanesville. She most enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children along with her husband.
She leaves her husband, Jim, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage; her daughter, Nancy Norton and her husband, Terry of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; her son, James Donald Leonardi of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ashley and Jamie of Essex, Mass., Christopher Hill and his fiancée, Danielle Debiase of Gorham, Maine, Abigail Norton and Robby Norton of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; three great-grandchildren, Connor Hill, Liam Norton, Michael Frenette; a sister, Barbara Duffy and her husband, Jim of Clearwater, Fla.; and her very best friend, Geri Babins of Rockport. Her nine-year-old mini Pinscher, “Peter,” is missing her already.
Her visiting hour will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Thursday, August 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. A service will follow in the Greely Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Online condolences may be given at www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
