Doreen E.'s Story
Mrs. Doreen E. (Coulter) Bona, 60, of Gloucester passed away Monday, October 31, 2016, in Addison Gilbert Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Stephen M. LaCourt, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage.
Doreen was born October 5, 1956. She was the daughter of Alexander Coulter and his wife, Judith of Reading and her late mother, Nancy (Babcock) Tarr. Doreen grew up in Rockport and graduated from Rockport High School, Class of 1974.
Doreen enjoyed working at Gortons and Stop and Shop. She also pumped gas at local gas stations.
She enjoyed helping her friends, especially at Sheedy Park, where she would always have a big smile to warm someone’s day. Doreen was strong willed, and she enjoyed traveling. In her earlier years she played softball and also enjoyed bowling.
In addition to her father and step-mother, Doreen is survived by her son, Marc E. Bona and his longtime companion, Jenn Marcos of Gloucester; her two sisters, Kathy Hopkins and her longtime companion, Tim Mathison and Maureen “Moe” Gallant and her husband, Rick Gallant, Jr., all of Gloucester. Doreen is also survived by her step-brother, Shawn Maguire of Reading and her step-sister, Mary Ellen Macri of Reading. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Doreen’s memorial visitation will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be at a later date in Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen’s memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, P.O.
