Dorothy M.'s Story
Dorothy M. (St. Jean) Williamson, 95, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday evening, August 26, 2017, at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Salem on December 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Fay) St. Jean. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1940. Dorothy was a wonderful, unselfish, loving mother. She raised and supported two daughters on her own. She had won "Mother of the Year" twice; once in Gloucester and later in Ipswich. As a young lady, Dorothy began working at Gorton’s and later at Addison Gilbert Hospital as a cleaning woman. From there, she worked at the Massachusetts Unemployment office and then the Mass Department of Welfare. Her grandchildren will never forget the time she had for each one. Reading stories, babysitting, or taking them to McDonald’s and putting pennies on the railroad tracks on the way over and finding the flattened ones on the way back. Every one of them has a special story to tell and a special nickname she called them. She brought so much happiness to all of her family and will live on in their hearts forever. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Debra D’Amico and husband, Anthony, Donna Young and husband, Robert Young Jr.; six grandchildren, Sherri Mackey and husband, Kevin, Jody Young and fiancée, Tiffany Pappas, Malia D’Amico, Frank D’Amico, Lacey Curcuru and husband, David, Joseph D’Amico and wife, Claudia; eight great-grandchildren, Brittani and Kyle Young, Ryan, Alyssa and Hannah Carter, Luca and Giada D’Amico, Gavin Curcuru; great-great granddaughter, Aria Carter; sister-in-law, Ann St. Jean; and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Young; sister, Gloria Sears and her husband, Melvin Sears; her brother, Robert St. Jean; her nieces, Sandra Sears and Linda D’Entremont; and her ex-husband, Charles G. Williamson.
Her Memorial Mass will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Friday, September 1, at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Dolliver Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
