Douglas F.'s Story
Douglas Francis Langley, age 65, died peacefully on February 5, 2017, in the presence of family. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Douglas was the eldest son of Douglas and Eleanor (Mattson) Langley. Douglas graduated from Gloucester High School in 1969, then proudly served his country aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Forrestal completing two tours of duty in the Mediterranean before being stationed at the Boston Naval Shipyard, until his honorable discharge 1973. While in the Navy he married his longtime love, Kathleen (Haskins) Langley of Gloucester in 1972, with whom he enjoyed 44 years of marriage. He went on to a successful career as a computer engineer working for various companies. Douglas was an avid sports fan and loved watching and talking about the Red Sox and Patriots. Douglas was well known for his sense of humor, notably his one-liners and off-the-cuff reactions. He and his lifelong best friend, Mike O’Hanley, were inseparable to the end. Doug and Mike could be found most days walking Stacey Boulevard, talking about their growing families, their childhood indiscretions and making witty commentary on current events. Douglas was a loving husband, father and devoted grandfather. Douglas is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his two children, Kiley and her husband, Joe Frontiero, Doug and his wife, Jade (Palazola); his four grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored, Emma, Sean, Harper and Cami; his siblings, Norma and her husband, Ron Nickerson, Bill Langley and his companion, Dianne Rowe, Jane and her husband, Tony Curcuru; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and family friends. Douglas was predeceased by his beautiful three day old son, Douglas Philip Langley; and his parents, Douglas Peter Langley and Eleanor Ester Langley.
There are no visiting hours and burial will be held privately. A celebration of his life will be held in the Magnolia Library, 1 Lexington Ave., Magnolia on Monday, February 13, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited.
