GLOUCESTER, MA: Edith R. Smith, 76, of Gloucester, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at Kaplan Hospice House. She was the wife of Donald E. Smith, who passed away in 2010. They shared a marriage of 50 years.
She was a lover of all animals, especially her beloved dogs. She enjoyed flower arranging, knitting, and other crafts. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and had worked as a fish packer for various local places. In her later years, she cared for her husband and their home.
She is survived by three children, Desi Smith and daughter-in-law, Teresa of Gloucester, Retired Sergeant Major Brady Smith and daughter-in-law, Roseann of Crestwood, Ky., and Anita White and son-in-law, David of Gloucester. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Kirton, wife of the late Lawrence Kroton of Gloucester; brother-in-law, Wayne Smith of Beverly; five grandchildren, Marydith Smith of Kentucky, Derek Smith, Jenna Smith, Davya and Kirsten White, all of Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Sheehan, Patricia Tanner, Katherine Savage; and brothers, Raymond Rogers and Gilbert Rogers.
Burial will be held privately by the family.
