Edward "Mac"'s Story
Mr. Edward “Mac” McColgan, 85, of Gloucester passed away on Monday morning, September 25, 2017, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Moore) McColgan.
Mac was born in Somerville, June 27, 1932. He was the son of the late Hugh and Lillian (Carter) McColgan. He grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. Mac lived for 45 years in Gloucester.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Mac was a heavy equipment operator and ran a variety of heavy equipment for many years, until his retirement in 2003. He was a proud member of the Local 4 Operating Engineers
He is survived by two sons, Jim McColgan and his wife, Joann of Tewksbury and Stephen McColgan and his wife, Susan of Haverhill; one daughter, Karen Capuano and her husband, Larry of Melrose. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Daniel and Nicole McColgan, Lauren and Courtney McColgan, Joe and Alyssa Capuano.
He was the brother of the late Hugh McColgan.
Mac’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral service will be on Thursday morning, September 28, 2017, in the First Parish Congregational Church, 10 Central St., Manchester-by-the-Sea at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
