"Dee Dee"'s Story
Mrs. Eleanor E. (Herbert) “Dee Dee” Lewis, 85, of Gloucester passed away on Monday in Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Francis G. Lewis, Sr.
Dee Dee was born December 7, 1930, in Gloucester, daughter of the late Captain James and Mary (Shields) Herbert. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester High School.
She worked at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church Rectory for many years, until her retirement. She previously worked with her husband, Francis at Atlantic Seafood.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. Dee Dee and her friend, Barbara Quirk enjoyed playing Bingo and their trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City. She also enjoyed her morning tea and toast with the Sweet sisters.
Dee Dee is survived by her children, Francis G. Lewis, Jr.; Alan M. Lewis and his wife, Sherri; Linda Mack and her husband, David; and Tammy Lewis and her longtime companion, Scott Fligg, all of Gloucester; her grandchildren, Jennifer Lewis-Sanborn, Francis G. Lewis III, Joanna Brancaleone, Michael Lewis, Lauri Burnett, Christina Lewis, Ashley Ross, Alan M. Lewis, Jr., Kadin Lewis and Ryan Lewis. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren; a brother, James Herbert of Florida; a sister, Janice Lynn of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joan Lewis; as well as her brothers, William and Donald Herbert.
Dee Dee’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester on Friday, November 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
