Eugene J.'s Story
Mr. Eugene J. Silveira, Sr., 80, of Gloucester, passed away at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly on Thursday, January 12, 2017. He was the husband of Ellen, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Eugene was born on February 8, 1936, in Gloucester. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Oliver) Silveira. Gene was a resident of Gloucester for his entire life. He attended Gloucester Public Schools, was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1955, and served in Korea from 1956 to 1957. He married Ellen Fahy of Ireland in 1959.
Gene was a taxi cab driver in the Cape Ann area for many years and later sold promotional materials for Nationwide Marketing Group. He enjoyed writing poetry, loved music, was an avid pool player in his younger days and was a loyal Boston sports fan for many years, with a special fondness for the Red Sox and Patriots.
In addition to his wife, Ellen, Gene is survived by his children, Jeffrey Silveira and his wife, Beth Logan of Cambridge; Jack Silveira of Gloucester; Jill Silveira of Gloucester; Patrick Silveira and his wife, Michelle of Gloucester; Brian Silveira and his wife, Angelique of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Eugene J. Silveira, Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Gloucester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick, Evan, Emily, Ryan, Elizabeth, James; and great-granddaughter, Rosie. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Silveira; and step-grandson, J.J. Nicastro.
