Fannie's Story

GLOUCESTER: Fannie M. Pistenmaa, 93, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, August 23, 2015, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Gloucester on October 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Wentla (Hautamaki) Pistenmaa.

Fannie was a graduate of Gloucester High School and Bentley College. For many years, Fannie had worked as a secretary for Favazza Insurance in Gloucester.

Throughout her life, Fannie had a wonderful passion for meticulously tending to her gardens. She loved talking to folks passing by and showing them the fruits of her labor. She was always sharing her flowers with family and friends.

Fannie was a devoted lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of the Quilter’s Group. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her very devoted niece, Jean M. Jacobson; sister-in-law, Martha Pistenmaa; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen S. Jacobson, Aili E. Pistenmaa, Winnie M. Hautala; and four brothers, William, Urho, George, and Lauri Pistenmaa.

Her memorial service will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lanesville, on Saturday, August 29, at 11 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Seaside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to her great niece, Hannah Pastagal College Fund, c/o Bank Gloucester, 160 Main Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
