GLOUCESTER, MA: Franklyn (Bruce) Hamilton, 74, Passed away at home on November 30, 2015, after a long battle with cancer, with his loving family and friends at his side.
He was born at home on September 27, 1941, the son of the late Franklyn E. and Dolores (Natario) Hamilton.
He was the husband of Lois Ann (Whitmarsh) Hamilton, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Bruce was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1959. He was employed by the City of Gloucester for 22 years in the Sign, Water filtration, and the Gloucester Police Department. He retired in 1981.
He entered the US Army on August 24, 1961, until August 10, 1964, as a member of Co C 385th MP Bn US ARSEVEN in Germany.
Bruce enjoyed playing sports baseball, softball, basketball, and flag football. He was a member of the Uncle Moe’s Softball team for many years.
His fondest memories were holidays with family, riding motorcycles, target shooting, arts and crafts, as well as boating on the Chesapeake Bay on the Coupon Clipper with Capt. Stan and 1st Mate Peggy, and driving antique cars.
Bruce was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, Gloucester Fraternity Club, Top of the Bay Cruising Association, Senior Care RSVP volunteer, and True Fans for Elvis Fan Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lois; his devoted son, Craig M. Hamilton; sister, Bonnie J. Sweet; brother, Brian K. Hamilton; grandchildren, Michael R. Dennis and his fiancée, Sarah Kate Huggle and her son, Kameron Williams of Clarke Summit, Pa., Max C. Hamilton of Salem, Mass., Caitlin E. Hamilton and her fiancé, Marc Buotte of Gloucester, Mass.; great-grandson, Tripp Buotte of Gloucester, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Nancy C. Lafond and her husband, Billy, Margaret O. Berkowitz and her husband, Stanley, Mary E. Nickerson and her husband, Frank of North Beverly, Mass., and Laura J. Ball of Somersworth, N.H.; brother-in-law, Robert K. Whitmarsh and his wife, Dolores of Gloucester, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; including special nephew, Shawn B. Sweet and his wife, Florence of Amesbury, Mass.; and special niece, Heather J. Sweet and her fiancé, Sean Porper; great-nephews, Robert Sweet of Boston, Mass., and Ryan T. Cusick of Gloucester, Mass.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Paula Jeanne (Hamilton) Dennis; his brothers-in-law, Elwood Sweet and Kenneth Pinkham; as well as his nephew and godson, Dana Pinkham.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Mass General North Cancer Center and the dedicated nursing staff at Care Dimensions and his very dedicated close friends Charlie Gilligan, Duke Donnelon, Jimmy Robertson, Duke Porter, Stevie Linsky, Ms. Molly Andrew, and her very loving and caring daughter Ms. Lucy Williamson.
