James J.'s Story
James J. Marchant, Sr., 56 of Gloucester, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday evening, August 8, 2016.
James was born in Gloucester on October 15, 1959, the son of Nancy (Marchant) Craaybeeck and the late John (Jack) S. Marchant Sr, of Gloucester.
Jim graduated from Gloucester High School in 1978. He worked at Gloucester Engineering for almost 40 years as a Mechanical Technician. Jim loved sports, whether he was watching the Bruins, watching his kids, or coaching. Jim was a soccer coach for 20+ years for Fishermen Youth Soccer and helped with the Raiders softball and basketball programs as well. He was always there to coach all four of his kids and continued to coach even after they were done playing. Jim would watch and cheer on all his former players as they moved on to the high school teams and he was always there to cheer for his granddaughter on the soccer field. He enjoyed playing golf, camping in Sturbridge, and salt water fishing off the State Fish Pier, where you could see him patiently waiting for a tug on his line. He had also been an avid dart player, most recently on the team at the GFC. Jim enjoyed his rides around the Backshore. Willy, his canine Whippet, will truly miss his buddy.
Jim loved to share his skills and talents with his family. He spent many hours taking his kids and granddaughter fishing, helping his kids work on their cars, coaching them in soccer and teaching them how to throw a dart. Jim was proud of his work at Gloucester Engineering and would bring his kids to see the big machines that his handiwork kept running smoothly.
He is survived by the beloved mother of his children, Theresa (Luoni) Marchant, four children, Alicia (Marchant) Donahue and her husband, Barry, Kimberly Marchant, James Marchant Jr. and his fiancee, Alycia Aiello, and Megan (Marchant) Church and her husband, Kaleb, all of which are from Gloucester; his beloved granddaughter, Julia Marchant and grandson Colt Donahue; his sisters, Mary Marchant of Pennsylvania, Deborah (Marchant) Morris and her husband, David, of Georgia, Jane (Marchant) Nicastro and her husband, Jerry of Florida; his brothers, John S. Marchant Jr. and his wife, Ann of Gloucester, Anthony Marchant; as well as many other sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, Salina Miller, his dad John (Jack) Marchant, his sister, Pamela Marchant and his brother, Timothy Marchant.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We have lost a great father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
