Jane (Kelly) Crotty, 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Providence, R.I. on August 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George and Cecilia (O’Gorman) Kelly. Jane raised her family in Wethersfield, Conn., and spent her last twenty plus years living and painting in Dennis and Rockport, Mass.
Jane graduated the Art School of Fashion in Hartford, Conn., and went on to a career in fashion illustration. She was an advertising manager for Worth’s Department Store in Waterbury, Conn. In the late 1960’s she began painting in watercolor and continued painting and showing her work throughout New England. She received numerous awards both in Connecticut and Cape Cod. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Patrick Crotty, from Cork, Ireland. She will be missed by her three daughters and their families – including five grandchildren and two great grandchildren who spent much treasured time with her during her last two years in Rockport. Jane is survived by daughter, Mary Tess Crotty of Rockport; daughter, Anne Marie Crotty and husband, Greg Gibson of Gloucester, MA, and daughter, Mary Jane Crotty and Don Muirhead of Gloucester. Jane also leaves grandchildren, Brooks Gibson and his wife, Whitney and their children, Naia and Onni of Rockport, Bri Benjamin of Gloucester, and Celia Gibson and husband, Adam Novello of Gloucester; Jacob Benjamin of Champagne, Ill., and Lucas Benjamin of Oakland, Calif. She leaves a sister-in-law, Virginia Kelly of Manchester, Conn. and six nieces. Jane also leaves her sister’s children, Joyce O’Connell of East Hartford, Conn., JoAnn and Ned Lizon of West Hartford, Conn. and Mark and Nancy O’Connell of Southbury, Conn. She was predeceased by her grandson, Galen Gibson; her sister, Ann O’Connell and brother, Eugene Kelly.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, July 15, at 9 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, Conn., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Conn. Jane inspired all her family and friends with her artistic sensibility, generosity and love of life.
