Janice's Story

MANCHESTER-BY-THE SEA: Janice J. Crane-Arnold passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 6th after a brief illness. Janice, also known to many as “Mopsie”, was a lifetime resident of Manchester-by-the Sea.

Born in Salem on January 27, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Arthur F. Jorgensen and the late Calista Price Jorgensen. She graduated Story High in 1956. After high school she received an Associate degree in Accounting from Burdett College.

In 1959, she married the late William J. Crane. They were married for 31 wonderful years. She leaves behind their four sons, William J. Crane Jr. of Chicago, Todd P. Crane of Manchester, Christopher B. Crane of Martha’s Vineyard, and Brett J. Crane and his wife, Diana of Gloucester.

In 1993, she married the late Kenneth C. Arnold, Jr. of Lynn. Surviving her are three step children, Barbara Morris of Greenfield, Kenneth Arnold III of Middleton, and Pam Reardon of Nashua, N.H.

Additionally, she is survived by two sisters, Suzanne Baker and her husband John of Manchester and Linda Jorgensen of Manchester, many great-nieces and nephews, nieces, nephews, along with four grandchildren, Tiffany B. Crane of Watertown, Taylor I. Crane, Hannah B. Crane, and Lily M. Crane all of North Andover.

She was predeceased by her brother, Martin Jorgensen, of Concord, N.H.

Janice’s sense of humor was her greatest quality. She was a devoted mother, aunt and grandmother who will be missed dearly by not only her family, but many of the residents in town.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 25, at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Condolences can be mailed to the Crane Family, P.O. Box 63, Manchester, MA 01944.
