Joan E.'s Story
Joan E. (Melanson) MacDonald, 83, wife of the late Paul E. MacDonald of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Den Mar Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.
Born in Gloucester on July 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Helen (Nasser) Melanson.
Joan was a graduate of St. Ann’s School with the Class of 1950. She then was trained and worked at Addison Gilbert Hospital as a Radiologist and later worked with Dr. O’Donnell at the Cape Ann Medical Center.
Joan also worked at O’Maley School for many years as secretary to the principal before retiring.
Joan was simply a wonderful, fun loving and extremely kind lady. She dearly loved family, especially her grandchildren and always was ready to greet them with homemade baked sweets. Joan was also very devout in her faith as a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by five children, Sandra Castro and husband Armando, Paula Brown and husband, Richard, Dana MacDonald and wife, Clare, Tricia Quinn and husband David, Stephen MacDonald; grandchildren, Alexander Castro and wife, Laura, Trevor, Derek and Emily Castro, Erika Muniz and husband John, Adam Brown and wife, Lauren, Olivia Brown, Jill MacDonald, Mackenzie and Curtis Quinn, Calvin and Peri MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Chase and Emma Brown, Keris Muniz; her brother, James Melanson and wife, Judy; her sisters, Janice Broghamer, Jeanne McAlduff and husband Paul of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, June 1st at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
