Joan M. (Pierce)'s Story
Mrs. Joan M. (Pierce) Sikorski, 82, of Gloucester passed away unexpectedly in Beverly Hospital on Monday, September 19, 2016. She was the wife of the late Carl A. “Ski” Sikorski, retired U.S.C.G, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage until his passing in 1997.
Joan was born June 11, 1934, in Gloucester, daughter of the late George and Ada (England) Pierce. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1952.
As a young girl Joan worked at the Five and Ten, and later at Gloucester Ice and Cold Storage, until she met and married her beloved husband.
Joan and Carl married in 1956 and together raised three children. These children grew up to become her best friends. Joan had a sharp witted sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. She had a fierce love for her family and that love was returned a thousand fold. She will be dearly missed by so many.
Joan had numerous interests and among them were astronomy, animals and nature, her vast knowledge of trivia, and especially biblical trivia, gave her a competitive edge when watching her favorite game show Jeopardy. She especially enjoyed being part of Miss Tina’s “Seniorettes” dance group where she made many longtime friends. One of her all time favorite things was playing cards with her family at her daughter Brenda’s every Saturday night, where there was never a shortage of fun and laughter.
Joan had a very deep faith in God and gained much strength from her faith. Her faith also led her to volunteer as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Emblem Club, Our Lady of Good Voyage Church Guild, as well as the Gloucester Fraternity Club.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated family, Michael T. Sikorski and his wife, Tracy (Johnson) of Gloucester; Brenda T. Asaro and her husband, David J. of Gloucester; and Karen Sikorski of Peabody; three grandchildren, Kristy, Lynn and Michael Asaro.
She was predeceased by her sister, June Hodgkins.
