Joanne M.'s Story
Joanne Marie (Belanger) Movalli, 80, of Gloucester passed away peacefully at the Golden Living Center surrounded by her family on September 13, 2016.
Joanne was the wife of Richard P. Movalli, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in Arlington, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Helen (Ryan) Belanger.
Joanne graduated from Gloucester High School in 1954 and from the Addison Gilbert School of Nursing in 1956, where she earned her Practical Nursing certificate. She went on to work at Addison Gilbert Hospital, spending most of her career on Steele 1, and retiring after 35 years of service.
Joanne and Richard loved to travel and spent 30 years traveling to Maui for the winter. They also enjoyed going out to breakfast almost daily at the Atlantis, George’s, Lobstaland and Friendly’s. They spent much time going for rides, going to yard sales, and taking trips to other places, including many trips to Cape Cod, a cruise to Alaska, and visiting friends across the country. She especially loved the trip they took with her family and grandchildren to Walt Disney World.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Joanne is survived by her daughter, Pamela Taormina and husband Nick; her grandchildren, Jenna and Nico who meant the world to her, and her beloved grand dog, Bella. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Joanne was predeceased by her brother, Robert Belanger; her sisters and brothers-in-law, who she missed very much, Virginia and Maurice Roy of Billerica, MA and Kay and Howard Dunbar of Nashua, N.H.; her husband’s parents, Arthur and Edith (Pucci) Movalli; sisters-in-law, Patricia Movalli and Mary-Jane Movalli; brother-in-law, James Movalli and niece Judy Movalli.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Saturday, September 17, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
