John L.'s Story
John L. Allen, 49, of Gloucester, passed away at the Golden Living Center on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 following a long illness.
Born in Gloucester on March 30, 1967, he was the son of the late Alfred and Louise (Anderson) Allen.
John was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1987 and had played football for the Fisherman. He later received his Associate degree from North Shore Community College, Class of 1998.
John was an avid sports enthusiast and was a former flag football player for the House of Mitch and played for the Greasy Pole Walkers one pitch softball team. He was a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. He also loved the Father-Daughter dancing with the joy of his life Kaylee at Tina’s Dance Studio and taking cruises with family and friends. He also enjoyed the St. Peter’s Fiesta and had walked the greasy pole several times with his best friend, Peter Frontiero and nephew, Mark Allen.
He is survived by his daughter, Kaylee Allen; former wife, Kara (Davis) Allen; his brother, Robert Allen; two nephews, Mark and B.J. Allen; his sister, Andrea Sponagle and husband, Dana and their daughters, Mandy Sponagle-Haskell and wife, Jenelle Haskell, Mindy and Missy Sponagle; his niece and caregiver, Shyla Frontiero; uncle, Samuel Ciaramitaro; great-nieces and nephews, Kylie and Lacey Allen, Max and Emma Allen; cousins, Gina Meyer and her husband, Walter, Joey Ciaramitaro and his wife, Francine and very close friends, Peter and Melanie Frontiero and their children, Aisha and Tasara.
He was predeceased by his aunt, Grace Ciaramitaro and cousin, Sal Ciaramitaro.
His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Friday, September 9, at 11 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held today, Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
