ROCKPORT: John F. Walsh Jr. of Rockport, formerly of Reading, was born in Lowell in 1930 to the late John F. Walsh and Mary (Wrigley) Walsh. John attended Keith Academy, and following Merrimack College, worked for 37 years for Verizon. A 30-year resident of Rockport, he was a long time, active member of St. Joachim's and Holy Family Parish. John served as a lector and faithfully served the Parish and the community. Over the last 10 years, John made multiple trips with Holy Family Parish Mission to the Dominican Republic to aid the people of Cevicos. He also was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul, Meals on Wheels, and the Thatcher Island Association. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Murphy) Walsh and six children, Elaine Walsh, Lucy Walsh, Mary Jennifer Walsh, Johanna Dunlavey and her husband, Timothy Dunlavey, John (Sean) Walsh, and Elizabeth Buswick and her husband Geoffrey Buswick; six grandchildren, Catherine, Aidan, and Hannah Dunlavey; Margaret and Charlotte Buswick, and Leo Walsh; his sister, Patricia Day of Peoria, Arizona, and his brother, Robert and his wife Marian of Tucson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and leaves behind many close and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maree Bakrow.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, will be held on Monday, February 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. His Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joachim's Parish, Broadway, Rockport, on Tuesday, February 23 at 10 a.m. Burial will be held privately.
