Joseph's Story

IPSWICH: Joseph J. Di Palma, 70, husband of Elizabeth "Beth" DiPalma, died Sunday morning December 27, 2015, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a short illness. Born in Beverly on February 4, 1945, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Lenoa (Guilebbe) DiPalma.

Joseph was a graduate of St. Ann High School in Gloucester, Class of 1962. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having honorably served as a submariner on the USS Cobbler (SS-344). Joseph was employed at Gloucester Engineering for 40 years, until his retirement in 2010. He was a communicant and an Eucharist Minister at the Church of St. Paul in Hamilton. He was a member of the American Legion in Gloucester. Joseph was a Jack-of-all-trades, he would help anyone who needed it, especially family, friends, and neighbors. He could fix anything or he could build whatever was needed. He also loved working on cars, working in his yard, and being outdoors. He and his wife were married in St. Ann Church in Gloucester 43 years ago.

In addition to his wife, Beth of Ipswich, Joseph is survived by their two children and their spouses, Julie and Bob Sellars of Hamilton, Steven and Suzanne DiPalma of Tewksbury; their five grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexa, and Lauren Sellars, Olivia and Jason DiPalma. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sylvia Comeau and her husband, Bob, and Maryann DiPalma all of Peabody; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday December 30, at 9 a.m., at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union Street, Hamilton. Burial will follow with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 29, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
