Kathleen E. (Carter)'s Story
Kathleen E. (Carter) Ricci, age 91, died July 15, 2016, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers. She was the wife of the late Armand Ricci, a lifelong Essex resident, and the daughter of the late Carl and Alberta Carter.
Mrs. Ricci founded the Village Restaurant of Essex in 1956, with her husband, Armand Ricci, and parents, Carl and Alberta Carter. Under her guidance, the restaurant grew to become a North Shore institution, and this year celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Artistic by nature, with a passion for horticulture, Kathleen found beauty in simplicity and spent many years studying traditional Japanese Floral design with the Ikenobo Society of Boston. Her exquisite designs were a tradition she carried on at the Village Restaurant into her 90s.
Surviving her are two sons, Kevin Ricci and his wife, LuAnne of South Hamilton, and Mark Ricci and his wife, Diane of Essex; two brothers, Dana and Dick Carter, both of Essex; and two step-grandchildren, Christine and Matthew Myers. She was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Boutchie.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, Essex, on Thursday at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
