Kathleen M.'s Story
Kathleen M. Dort, 77, of Oneonta, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at home.
Kathleen was born September 5, 1938, in Gloucester, daughter of the late Charles and May (Emero) Dort. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School.
She was a W.A.C. in the United States Army for 31 years until her retirement. She served active duty from 1960 to 1971 and with the reserves from 1971 to 1991. During her active duty time she served two tours, one in Okinawa and one in Japan. She retired with the rank of SP 5.
After retiring from the Army she worked for Jefferson County Health Authority as a water tester for the State of Alabama for 25 years.
She is survived by her brother, James Dort and his wife, Jacqueline of Gloucester; her two nephews, James Dort, Jr. and his wife, Jamie, as well as Daniel Dort and his wife, Jennifer; and a niece, Mary Amero and her husband, Phillip, all of Gloucester. She is also survived by her two grandnephews, Thomas J. and Ajay M. Dort of Gloucester, and her Goddaughter, Bonnie J. Hiroshima and her husband, Guy of Brentwood, Calif.
Kathleen’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester, on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. The family has asked for donations in Kathleen’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
