Lawrence M.'s Story
Lawrence Mason "Larry" Baldwin of Brooksby Village in Peabody, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of November 11, 2016, after enjoying a dinner out with friends.
Larry was an alert, energetic, and active 100-year-old. He enjoyed repairing furniture and making Nantucket lightship baskets in the Brooksby workshop. Over his lifetime he had many other hobbies, including 40 years as a private pilot, skiing, tennis, golf, playing the accordion and piano, and cruising with his wife Joanne on their 34-foot sloop out of Stonington, Connecticut for 18 years.
Larry was born in Hartford, Conn. on January 14, 1916, to Edward and Marianna Baldwin. He graduated from the Loomis School in Windsor, Conn. in 1933, and from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut in 1937. He lived with his wife of 68 years, Joanne Thornton Baldwin, in West Hartford, Simsbury, and Stonington Conn., and Fort Pierce Florida. Larry held a number of responsible management positions at United Technologies from 1939 to 1979.
Larry is remembered with great love by Joanne and their three children, Priscilla Baldwin Moffitt, Betsy Baldwin Levick, and Ted Baldwin; their children's spouses; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; extended family members; and many, many devoted friends.
A memorial service will be held later this year. Donations in Larry's name may be made to the Loomis-Chaffee School, Windsor, CT 06095 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
