Lewis F.'s Story

Lewis F. Day Jr., 80, beloved husband of Anne (Guenet) Day, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
He was born in Beverly on March 18, 1937 to the late Lewis F. and Helen (Kerrigan) Day. He was a graduate of Story High School, Class of 1955, Boston College and Suffolk University. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Day spent most of his working years in the United States Government, first with the IRS, retiring as Division Chief, then with the Department of Immigration and Naturalization. In retirement, he also loved to drive the Council on Aging van in his longtime hometown of Manchester by the Sea. He was an Honorably Discharged Member from the Army National Guard, a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Amaral Bailey Post 113.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife of 57 years is a son Lewis F. Day III, two daughters, Elisa A. Heath and her husband, Douglas, Diana L. Ring and husband, David, a sister, Marilyn Manos, four grandchildren, Ryan D. Heath, David L. Heath and his wife, Elizabeth Grace Heath, Sydney A. Ring, and Jackson D. Ring, all of Manchester-by-the-Sea. He is also survived by a great-grandson, Samuel P. Heath of Cranston, R.I. He was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Blazak.
Lewis, or Bud as he was known to his friends and family, was happiest spending time with his family and especially loved watching his grandchildren perform, whether it was in the performing arts or on the playing field. He loved good food, good music, and a good laugh. He will always be remembered as a family man and as a Man of God who loved Sacred Heart Parish in Manchester-by-the-Sea, where he was a member for most of his 80 years.
The funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 62 School Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea, on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
