Lewis's Story

IPSWICH: Lewis E. Story, 88, husband of the late Ruth B. (Connolly) Story, died peacefully Tuesday night, January 26, 2016 in his home, after a short illness. Born in Essex on July 15, 1927, he was the son of the late George G. and Harriett (Hood) Story.

Mr. Story was a veteran of World War II having honorably served in the Army. He and his wife Ruth were married on July 8, 1950. Mr. Story was employed by the City of Beverly for 40 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for several departments. Mr. Story retired in 1992, for the last 20 years of his career he was a Pump House Engineer for the Water Department. He always considered the Town of Essex as his home. Over the years Mr. Story had been a resident of Essex, Beverly and most recently Ipswich. He was a good musician, he was a self-taught guitarist and pianist/organist. Mr. Story had his own very successful lawn service business, he was well known for it. Mr. and Mrs. Story loved to travel including taking bus trips and just driving across country by themselves. He was well know by many and was a gentleman to all who knew him. Mr. Story was predeceased by his wife Ruth on December 21, 2013.

Mr. Story is survived by his four sons, George Story and his partner, Ann Paladin of Gloucester, Paul Story and his wife Linda of Hollis, N.H., Thomas Story and Alan Story, both of Ipswich. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two nieces, Beverly and Deborah and one nephew, Irving, all of Connecticut, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Clyde Story formerly of Sandy Hook, Conn.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30 at 10 a.m. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
