Lois A. (McGillivary)'s Story
Mrs. Lois A. (McGillivary) Ruta, 79, of Beverly, passed away on Saturday morning, February 25, 2017, in Pilgrim Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.
She was the beloved wife of the late Jennarino “J.R.” Ruta.
Lois was born August 20, 1937, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Crowley) McGillivary. She was a resident of Beverly for the past 35 years and previously resided in Gloucester.
She worked at Cyrk Printing for many years, until her retirement. She previously worked on the Gloucester waterfront in the seafood industry for several years.
She was a longtime member of the Seafood Retirees. Lois enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling, playing bingo and going to lunch with her longtime friends.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Mary Ann Ruta of Beverly and Julie Ann Koper of Gloucester; one brother, Robert McGillivary of Gloucester; one sister, Marjorie Cusick of Gloucester; five devoted grandchildren, Shaun Koper and his wife, Koren, Stephanie, Jenna and Bradley Ruta and Helena Sutherland.
She is also survived by two cherished great-grandchildren, Kristjan and Kaiya Koper; her daughter-in-law, Francine Ruta of Gloucester; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two sons, Stephen F. and Gerald M. Ruta; as well as her brothers, Joseph, Kenneth and Stewart McGillivary; her sisters, Georgine Hill, Elizabeth Lorenzo and Helen “Sis” Nickerson.
Lois’ funeral services will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 3 p.m.
There will be a time of visitation prior to the service on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will follow in Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester.
