Lydia's Story

Lydia J. Viator, age 89, of Kingston, passed away on March 22, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her family and loving care she received from her granddaughter, Jessica. Lydia was born April 12, 1927, in Rockport to Onnie and Margaret (Dutcher) Mattson.

Lydia grew up in Rockport, where she attended school and graduated from Rockport High School. She worked for Hancock Electric Motor in Quincy as a secretary for a number of years. Later, she moved to Cape Cod where she and Robert opened Osterville Electric Motor Service, where she also worked as a secretary until she retired. She enjoyed volunteering at the JML Nursing Home in Mashpee as well as crocheting and cooking.

Lydia was the beloved wife of Robert B. Viator; loving mother to Robert B. Viator, Jr. of Rockland, Peggy Sutherland and her husband, Adam of Rockland, Patricia Bloomberg of Buzzards Bay, and Ronald Viator and his wife, Ann of Kingston. She was the loving grandmother to Tanya McDonald and her husband, Dwayne of Buzzards Bay, Lucinda Lesler and her husband, Bill of Halifax, Robert Viator III and his fiancé, Lindsey Kneeland of Rockland, Sherry Edwards and her husband, Jeffrey of Rockland, Jennifer Avenell and her husband, Aron of Montichiari, Italy, Jessica Viator and her fiancé, Jared Fiumara of Kingston, and Michael Viator and his fiancé, Casey Branco of Fall River. Lydia also adored her 14 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Shawn, Kirsten, Kayla, Owen, Jeffrey Jr, Damian, Cody, Jared Jr, Hailey, Olivia, Mia Belle, Hailey Grace, and Konor.

Lydia was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Viator and her siblings, Viola Mattson, Robert Mattson, and Irene (Mattson) Amero.
There will be a graveside service at the Bourne National Cemetery on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at 1 p.m. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lydia's name to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth MA 02360.
