Manuel Carrancho, 93, husband of Joanna M. (Cecilio) Carrancho of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Gloucester on November 18, 1923, son of the late Antonio and Maria (Damas) Carrancho. At the age of seven he moved to Portugal and was educated there. At 17 he returned to Gloucester and worked as a fisherman for 17 years. Later, as a member of the Merchant Marines, he worked for Boston Fuel as Chief Engineer for 29 years.
You could always find Manny tinkering around the house fixing something or putting things back where they belong. He loved cooking, watching western and war movies, but most of all he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the world to places such as Austria, Alaska, Brazil, France, Italy, Holland, the Azores and across country.
He was a member of the DES Club, MEBA Union and a life member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks.
Manny will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joanna M. Carrancho of Gloucester; his daughters, Turibia Joyce and her husband, Kenneth and Manuela Zerilli and her husband, Anthony, all of Gloucester; his son, Michael Carrancho and his wife, Nancy of Virginia; grandchildren, Joanna Joyce and her husband, David Murray, Colleen Rowe-Joyce and her wife, Ashley, Leonardo Zerilli and his wife, Kristen, Anthony Zerilli and his wife, Sheela, Christopher Zerilli and his wife, Ashley, Katherine Carrancho and Emily Carrancho; four great-grandchildren, Calla, Kathleen, Macie, and Piper; his brother, George Carrancho of Texas; his sister, Natalie Pimenta and her husband, Anthony of Peabody; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Thursday, January 26, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
There will be no visiting hours, and the burial will be held privately.
