Text size

Marcella Mildred Ramey passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017.

She was born May 8, 1919. She is saying goodbye to her daughter, Dawn Hill (Dick) of Duluth, Minn., along with her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Caden, Andraya and Brayde and their parents, Jason and Kelly Hill of Minneapolis, Minn., Grant and Kirsi and their parents, Douglas and Karen Hill of Wausau, Wis. She also bids farewell to daughter, M'Liss Murphy (James) of Mooresville, N.C., along with great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ivy, Aubrey, Zoey and Jaxson and their parents, Roxanne and Cole Goodman.

If you were to ask Mom the values that gave rise to the direction of her life, she would mention the value she held for relationships, the dedication she gave to serving others and the deep appreciation of all that was given her. She found daily blessings in the love and support of relationships old and new. In 1938, she graduated from Gloucester High School, collected her Sawyer Medal and started off on her adventures from coast to coast. Our Mom dedicated her professional life to the medical field. She graduated from Lynn Hospital, trained at Margaret Hague Hospital in New York, joined the army, worked at Michael Reese in Chicago, Children's Hospital in Toronto, Canada and also spent considerable time as a nurse anesthetist.

She finally made it home to where it all began, Gloucester, and set down roots for her second adventure at Central Grammar, where she found a lasting friendship with Elaine Morrow.

M'Liss and I want to express our thanks and appreciation for the professional care of Dr. Pawson and Dr. Powers and the personal care of Maureen. Thanks to Karen and Chuck Rembert and Elaine and John Morrow for their special care and attention.
There will be a Graveside Service at Calvary Cemetery, Eastern Ave, Gloucester on Monday, January 30, at 11 a.m. with a collation immediately following at the Central Grammar community room.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cape Ann Animal Aid in the memory of Marcella Ramey. For online condolences and register book, please visit www.pikenewhall.com.
