Marilyn A. (LaFlam)'s Story
Mrs. Marilyn A. (LaFlam) Burns, 75, of Gloucester passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness.
Marilyn was born January 26, 1941, in Gloucester, daughter of the late Clyde LaFlam and Julia (Francis) Ryan. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester as well as a graduate of Gloucester High School.
She and her late companion, Walter “Sonny” Manger were the Managers of the Lorraine Building for many years. She previously worked on the Gloucester waterfront as a fish processor for many years.
She was an Elvis collector and enjoyed his music. She also collected books and enjoyed long Sunday drives with Sonny and lunches in the park. She had a very special relationship with her grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her two children, Niilo Julius Makkonen III and Veronica Ann Makkonen, both of Gloucester; her three grandchildren, April L. Allen, Niilo Julius Makkonen IV and Ashley Marie Makkonen-Kessock; one great-grandson, Benny Kessock; as well as her half-brothers, Dana and Bruce LaFlam, both of Gloucester; her niece, Julie Ann (Mitchell) Adkins; and her nephew, Joseph Mitchell.
She was the grandmother of the late Mellisa C. Allen, companion of the late Walter “Sonny” Manger, sister of the late Patricia Hardeman Frazier, Sue Sue (Ryan) Mitchell and Roberta Ryan as well as her best friends the late Dee and Mim.
In honoring with Marilyn’s wishes, funeral services will be private.
