Mary Jean's Story

Mary Jean (Ribeiro) Mason, 78, beloved wife of Melvin F. Mason of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, June 16, 2017 at Mass General Hospital.
Born in Gloucester on August 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Capt. David and Emilia (Lopes) Ribeiro.
Jean was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1957. As a young lady Jean worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s fishing boat. She later worked at the former Almy’s in Gloucester and then for many years for Stop & Shop at the Customer Service counter. She also served on the Board of Directors for the North Shore Vocational School.
Jean was very well known for being just an incredibly kind and loving lady. She was devout in her faith as a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and the Women’s Guild. Above all Jean was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband Mel, she is survived by her three children, Brenda Budrow and husband, Jeff and their son, Jeffrey Budrow Jr., Melvin Mason Jr. and his children, Alex and Courtney Martin, Mark Mason and wife, Victoria and their sons, Brandon and Evan; her brother, David Ribeiro Jr. and wife, Cindy of Williamsburg, Va.; special cousin, Maria Parisi; and many other cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Rodrigues.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20th at 10 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
There are no visiting hours.
