PEABODY: Matthew P. Palazola, 84, husband of Mary R. (Quince) Palazola of Peabody, formerly of Middleton and Rockport, passed away on Sunday morning, October 18, 2015, at Continuing Care at Brooksby Village, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Gloucester on September 3, 1931, son of the late Jerome and Julia (Favazza) Palazola.
Matthew was a graduate of Gloucester High School and also of the School of Business in Manchester, N.H.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1971, receiving the Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Good Conduct Medal, retiring in July of 1971, after 22 years of proud service to his country.
Matthew was employed for many years as a computer analyst for Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and Lawrence General Hospital.
In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, reading, and painting.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary R. Palazola of Peabody; three sons, Richard Palazola and his wife, Jane Monahan of Trenton, Maine, David Palazola and his wife, Rosanne of Middleton, and Mathew Palazola of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Jillian, David, Stephen, Leah, Lauren, and Philip Palazola; a step-granddaughter, Krystal Wilson; a great-grandson, Dylan Gaipo; two sisters, Jean Witham and her husband, Jim, Susan Morgan and her husband, Charles all of Florida; a brother, Joseph Palazola and his wife, Mary of Beverly; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Burke, Grace Dagley, and a brother-in-law, John Quince all of Gloucester.
He was predeceased by three sons, Philip, John, and Jerry Palazola; and two sisters, Grace Markuson and Margaret “Peg” Boucher.
His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Thursday, October 22, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
