Patrick M.'s Story
Patrick M. (Sonny) Anciello, 76, husband of Sonja (Langwa) Anciello passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017, at his home, with his loving wife at his side. He was born in Somerville, Mass., son of the late Rocco and Antonetta (Bove) Auciello. He grew up in Cambridge in a large Italian family, surrounded by warmth and laughter. After high school graduation, Sonny joined the United States Coast Guard, and proudly served for 20 years retiring as a Senior Chief. He traveled all over the world during his time of duty, and had wonderful stories to tell. After retiring he drove a truck coast to coast, and then attended the North Bennet Street School, and studied fine cabinetmaking and furniture design. Later on he worked for many years at the Peabody Essex Museum, where he became the landscape supervisor, although he always said he was “just a simple gardener.” His gardens were brilliant and beautiful, and numerous couples came to be married therein. Sonny loved and became expert at golf, and some of his happiest moments were spend at the Rockport Golf Club. He also loved woodworking, gardening, traveling, and engines of all sorts. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sonja; his brother, Joseph in Florida; and his brother, John, his wife, Diane, and their children, Michael and Leah, and son-in-law Matt Evidge. He also leaves numerous cousins and his aunt, Ellie Blute; his step-children, whom he loved dearly, Sean Chandley and Lisa Marchetti and her husband, Harry Atkinson, and their daughters, Hillary Martin and Iris Brannan, and her husband, Andy, and their daughter, Poppy Luella.
His Memorial Service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Monday, February 6, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. The burial will be private.
