GLOUCESTER: Peter J. Cahill, 74, husband of Ann Joy Cahill of Rockport, passed away on January 9, 2016, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the son of the late John Roland Cahill and Marguerite Cahill. A graduate of St. John’s Preparatory High School and the College of the Holy Cross, he received a law degree from Boston College and practiced law in Gloucester. A member of the Elks Club, Bass Rocks Beach Club, Eastern Point Yacht Club, and a devoted runner of the Back Shore, he also co-founded the Simply Elegant Tennis Tournament.
He was the proud father of nine children and their spouses, Jonathan Cahill, Jason and Nancy Cahill of Los Angeles, Ann and Neil Cahill-Swenson of Greensboro, N.C., Mary and Stefane Cahill-Farella of Framingham, Maggie and Ray Cahill of Rockport, Joshua and Christina Cahill of Manchester, Sarah and Brian Kelly of Rockport, Abigail Cahill O’Brien and Gregory O’Brien of Rockport, and Nathaniel and Katie Cahill of Rockport. He was predeceased by his brother, David Cahill, and his sister, Johanna Murphy. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Murphy and husband, James of Wakefield; his sister, Christina Mattimore and husband, Timothy of Islip, N.Y.; countless cousins, nieces and nephews; and by his 22 loving grandchildren.
A Mass will be held on Thursday, January 14, at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
