Peter Tarantino, 84, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.
Peter was born in Gloucester, MA on July 24, 1932, the son of the late Salvatore and Pauline (Zerillo) Tarantino. He graduated from Gloucester High School and fished on the fishing boats until he went to Gloucester Engineering, where he worked as a machinist and spent the majority of his career there until his retirement. In recent years, Peter volunteered at the Brown Bag Program sponsored by Senior Care Inc. and the Open Door, which provides bagged meals to seniors. Peter belonged to the St. Peter’s Club and was a former member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks.Peter is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John (Bucky) and Pauline Tarantino, sisters, Martha Cominelli and Concetta Tarantino, son Peter Tarantino, son and daughter-in-law, James and Laurel Tarantino, all of Gloucester, daughter and son-in-law Pauline and Richard Rockwell of East Bridgewater; as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Philippina Tarantino and his brother, Joseph Tarantino.
His visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Friday, February 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friends and family are cordially invited. There are no services and burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham MA 01701.
