Richard P. "Dickie"'s Story
Richard P. "Dickie" Silva, Jr., 67, husband of Sandra J. (Moon) Silva, of Seabrook, N.H., formerly of Gloucester, passed away on Monday morning, September 12, 2016, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.
He was born in Gloucester, Mass., on May 24, 1949, son of the late Richard P. Silva, Sr. and Barbara M. (Porter) Silva. Dick was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1967. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a member of the MCB74 Seabee Battalion. He was proud to complete two tours of duty and serve his country.
Dickie was proud to be an American and was very patriotic. He loved displaying the American flag and was a former member of the AMVETS and American Legion in Gloucester. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved long rides with his wife and friends. He enjoyed camping with his children and loved family get togethers. He played a mean game of cribbage.
He worked at Gloucester Engineering, ran his own paint business, Affordable Painting, and maintained property for the Cummings Property Group.
He was a kind, gentle man with a huge, generous heart. He will be dearly missed by his extended family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandra J. Silva of Seabrook, N.H.; children, Erik Silva and Errin Silva, both of Gloucester, Melissa (Kilgour) Gauthier and her partner, Jason Ball of Candler, N.C., and Sherri (Kilgour) Ryan and her husband, Patrick of Whitefield, N.H.; his brother, Dana Silva and wife, Nancy, his brother-in-law, David Hickory, and his stepmother, Madeline Silva, all of Gloucester. He was the proud grandfather of John F. Silva III, David Rowe and fiancée, Katie Elwell, Corey Beal and wife, Jordan-Leigh, Tiana Rowe and fiancé, Jake Ineson, Timothy Camille III, and Victoria Gauthier. He had five great-grandchildren whom he adored and enjoyed so much. He is also survived by a large, close-knit extended family and a wide circle of friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Judith Hickory.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held on Friday, September 16, at 11 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
