Robert E.'s Story
Robert E. Powers Sr., age 77 years, died Tuesday August 9, 2016 at Beverly Hospital. He was husband of Carol A. (Pearson) Powers.
Born in Gloucester to the late Alfred C. and Caroline (Wakeling) Powers. He attended the Gloucester Vocational School.
Mr. Powers worked for the Manchester DPW as an Equipment Operator for 35 years, a Manchester on call Firefighter for over 35 years, drove a school bus for Manchester High School sporting events, a coach for his son little league and was extremely handy. A member of Improved Order of Redman Wingershiek Tribe #12 of Gloucester for over 50 years and served as Sachem for over ten years.
In addition to his wife, Carol with whom they shared over 56 years are two sons, Robert E. Powers Jr. and his wife Sharon of Danvers, Michael J. Powers and his wife Abby of Peabody; a brother, Alfred W. Powers and his wife Nancy of Florida; three sisters, Virginia Cail of Florida, Alice Frasier of Gloucester and Doreen Collins of Beverly; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Carly, Eric and Nathan Powers; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Lothrop; two step grandchildren, Makayla and Spencer Baker.
His funeral service will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Manchester Seaside Fireman's Fund.
