GLOUCESTER: Robert J. Langley, Jr., 69, of Gloucester passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in Gloucester on April 6, 1946, son of the late Robert and Eleanor (Blatchford) Langley, Sr. Bob was a ten-year veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the US Independence CVA-62. He was the recipient of the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. Bob spent most of his life working on the waterfront. He enjoyed being on and around the ocean, painting and walks with his dogs. Robert was a member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, Gloucester American Legion. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his sister, Gloria Burnham and her husband, Larry of Gloucester; niece, Eileen Quinn and her partner, Pamela Hill of Gloucester; nephew, Larry Burnham and his wife, Trisha of Rockport; a great-niece, Jessica Quinn; two great-nephews, Jason Quinn and Tom Burnham of Rockport; a great-great-niece, Lilyana Rae Goulart; a great-great-nephew, Michael Brody Quinn; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his faithful dog companions, Serena and Samantha.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 1 p.m., in Beechbrook Cemetery Veteran’s Lot in West Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Open Door Food Pantry, 28 Emerson Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the Cape Ann Animal Aid Association, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
