Roger Kent's Story
Mr. Roger Kent Schmidt, 82, of Gloucester passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016, in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Gertrude “Trudi” (Whelan) Schmidt, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Roger was born May 9, 1934, son of the late Harold and Eleanor (Johnson) Schmidt. He was a graduate of The Pingry School in New Jersey, Class of 1952. He went onto further his education at Williams College, where he received his degree in History, Class of 1956.
He served in the United States Navy and graduated Officer Candidate School.
Roger was a hospital administrator at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for many years, until his retirement.
He enjoyed reading, collecting books, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, poetry as well as photography.
In addition to his devoted wife, Trudi, Roger is survived by his four children, Gregory W. Schmidt of Gloucester, Diane J. Schmidt and Lauren R. Gonzalez of Westborough, and Jeffrey K. Schmidt and his wife, Leah Sutton of Oakland, Calif. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Sonya and Justin Gonzalez and James Sutton-Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Harry Schmidt.
