Salvatore P.'s Story
Salvatore P. Aiello, 92, husband of Rose (Garrisi) Aiello, of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday morning, April 6, 2017 at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family.
Born in Gloucester on March 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Vito and Maria (Militello) Aiello.
Sam proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Wasatch. He was a lifelong member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post 3 Gloucester American Legion.
He married the love of his life, Rose, and they were planning on celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in June.
He had worked as a commercial fisherman aboard the "Sacred Heart," "Cape Cod," "American Eagle," and the “Capt. Scrod."
Sam was very handy and enjoyed woodworking and carpentry in his spare time. He loved having Sunday dinners with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sam was a very kind and soft spoken man and the life of every party. Sam will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
In addition to his wife, Rose, he is survived by six children, Vito Aiello and wife Linda, Maria Randazza and husband Joe, Garland Aiello and wife, Patricia, John Aiello and wife, Cathy, Joe Aiello and fiancee, Marisa, Angela Robertson and husband, Brad; 22 grandchildren, whom he adored, Alicia Oliver and husband, Michael, Lori Taormina and husband Frank, Salvatore Aiello and wife, Stacey, Vito Aiello, Matthew Aiello and wife, Jennifer, Kimberly Aster, Arthur Aster and wife, Marlee, Roselle Randazza, Renee Randazza, Thomas Randazza and companion, Angeli, Bryan Aiello and wife, Lisa, David Aiello and wife, Samantha, Kristine Halverson and husband, Patrick, John Aiello and wife, Angela, Michelle Conejo and husband, Albert, Salvatore Aiello, Joey Aiello, Andrew Aiello, Cory Aiello, Daniel Robertson and wife, Krista, Bradley Robertson and fiancee, Meghan, Alyssa Robertson; 39 great grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Piscitello, Rose Demetri, Jennie Curcuru, Grace Palazolla; sister-in-law, Diana Aiello; brothers-in-law, Joseph, Peter and Sam Garrisi; and a very special niece, Josephine Anderson.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Aiello Parisi, Antoinette Militello; and his brothers, John and Anthony Aiello.
His funeral service will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Tuesday, April 11th at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral service in St. Ann’s Church at 9:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
