GLOUCESTER: Miss. Sandra (Merritt) McGrath, 80, of Gloucester passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with dementia.
She was born June 7, 1935, daughter of the late Eugene and Ellen (Linder) Merritt. She has been a resident of Gloucester for many years. She grew up in Brighton and was a graduate of Brighton High School. She continued her education at the Mass College of Art.
Sandra loved painting, sculpting and drawing. Her art was a way for her to express the beauty that she saw in the world. She loved to swim in the ocean, being at the beach and gardening.
She was a free spirit but the greatest love of her life was her family.
She is survived by her daughter and caretaker during her battle with dementia, Bronwyn Link and her partner, William Ace, and her devoted grandson, Shane Link. Sandra is also survived by her son, Daniel McGrath, his wife, Denise and their children, Cheyenne Foxtree-McGrath, Sequoya Foxtree-McGrath, Dakota Foxtree-McGrath, Savannah Foxtree-McGrath and Indigo Foxtree-McGrath.
