Mrs. Shirley D. (Johnson) Chipperini, 80, of Gloucester passed away quietly on Saturday, November 19, 2016, in Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of John M. Chipperini with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Shirley was born October 12, 1936, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late George and Louise (Crary) Johnson. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, she was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1954.
For many years, Shirley could be seen working in the cafeterias of the Gloucester School System. This was followed by her employment at the former ITT Rule Industries where she worked for many years until retiring.
Shirley’s true devotion was to her family. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was noted by her family for her outstanding holiday meals. She enjoyed family cook outs at Stage Fort Park, playing cards, LRC, and taking trips to Foxwoods. She also enjoyed traveling with the highlight being visiting her son in Europe where he was serving in the Army. Shirley was also a dedicated Red Sox and, more particularly, an avid Patriots fan for whom each game she would don a Patriots jersey and cheer on her team.
In addition to her husband John, Shirley is survived by her three sons, Firefighter Michael Chipperini and his wife, Jill of Gloucester, Brian Chipperini and his longtime companion, Lillian Elwell of Gloucester, and Kevin Chipperini and his wife, Rosetta of Zephyrhills, Fla. She also leaves behind brother, George Johnson and his wife, Jane of Gloucester; and sister, Charlene Montieth and her husband, Jim of Gloucester. She was the loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Nicole, Kevin and his wife, Rachel, John M. (USCG), Brendan and his wife, Vionette, Joelle, John W. (USAF) and Alexis Chipperini; and to her three cherished great-grandchildren Jaeden, Evan and Audriena. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Shirley’s Memorial Visitation will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Friday morning, November 25, 2016, beginning at 9 a.m. Her Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Dolliver Memorial Cemetery, West Gloucester.
