Shirley E. (Lund)'s Story
Mrs. Shirley E. (Lund) Bennett, 85, of Beverly, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in Blueberry Hill Nursing Center following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Warren H. Bennett, Jr. with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
Shirley was born July 22, 1931 in Manchester, NH, daughter of the late Gustave D. and Ruth E. (Marston) Lund. She has resided in Beverly for many years and previously resided in Gloucester and Stoneham. She was a graduate of Mass General School of Nursing. She went on to further her education at Salem State College where she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
Shirley was a Registered Nurse who enjoyed teaching Pharmacology to LPN students at Addison Gilbert Hospital in the 70’s. She worked for over 40 years for the VNA of the North Shore. In 1967 Shirley and her late husband Warren purchased the Gloucester Travel and Motor Inn in Gloucester which they ran for many years.
She was one of the Founding and longtime member of the Cape Ann Bible Church. She enjoyed traveling and driving their RV to Alaska.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Daniel W. Bennett of Beverly, Deborah R. Milne and her husband, Skip of Gloucester, Jonathan E. Bennett of Toronto and Cynthia A. Eastwick and her husband, Simon of Woodlands, TX. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two nieces, Elizabeth Lund and Linda Mesereau.
She was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Lund who passed away February 28, 2017.
Shirley’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Friday evening, March 31, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. Followed by her Memorial Service in the Cape Ann Bible Church, 8 Thompson St., Gloucester at 7 p.m. Her graveside service will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, 65 Brown Ave., Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
