Terre's Story

GLOUCESTER, MA: Terre V. Benham, 59, of Gloucester passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2016, surrounded by her loving family after fighting a five-year battle with uterine cancer. Terre was the loving wife and best friend of Bob Benham, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. She was born in Boston on June 1, 1956, to her late loving parents, Gerard and Barbara (Brennan) Vogel.

Terre grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1974. She then attended Florida Keys Community College, where she studied Marine Biology. Terre spent most of her life in Gloucester, where she was an adoring wife and mother. Terre cherished her family. Raising her four children was her greatest accomplishment and being with her grandchildren brought smiles to her face daily.

Terre’s passions and hobbies included boating and beach days (her favorite), playing tennis at the Bass Rocks Golf Club, buying and renovating property, traveling to the Carribean and Florida, ski trips, long walks, gardening, home decorating, helping with the family business, cooking, and shopping adventures with her girls.

Terre delighted in having a house full of family, kids, and friends. She was always willing to help out whether it was taking on extra children, giving advice, or hosting parties, especially family traditions.

It was Terre’s passion for caring for everyone that inspired her to study nursing at North Shore Community College, where she was President and valedictorian of her class. She thrived at being a registered nurse in the emergency department at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, where she was highly respected by her co-workers and gained life long friends.

Terre is survived by her husband, Bob Benham; son, Robbie Benham; her daughters, Brittany Viator and husband, Ryan, Brooke Benham and her boyfriend, Joe Sanfilippo, Mari Balbo and her husband, Danny; and her five beautiful grandchildren, Cruz, Taj, Max, Jay, and Celeste. Terre is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, her three sister-in-laws, and her amazing group of friends.

Terre’s celebration of life will be held on Friday April 1, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Gloucester House Restaurant, 63 Rodger Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. There will be a brief prayer service at 1 p.m. Family and close friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Terre’s honor to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place Wes,t 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445, or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923 or online donations may be made at www.CareDimensions.org.
