Vincent "Jimmy"'s Story
Mr. Vincent “Jimmy” Saputo, 89, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 1, 2016, at home with his loving family at his side. He was the loving husband to Mary S. (Orlando) Saputo with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Jimmy was born June 21, 1926 in Detroit, Mich., son of the late John and Lena Saputo. He was a resident of Gloucester for most of his life.
He worked on the Gloucester Waterfront as a Fisherman and fished on many boats over the years until his retirement.
Jimmy was a kind-hearted man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed listening to music and dancing with the people that he loved. He was also a devoted Red Sox fan.
Jimmy was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Essex for many years. He was also a member of the Gloucester Elks, the St. Peters Club and the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church.
In addition to his devoted wife, Mary, Jimmy is survived by his dedicated and loving granddaughter, Dawn Marie McCarthy and her husband, Michael of Salem, N.H., his cherished great-grandchildren, Vincent and Salvatore “Sam” McCarthy; his sister, Maryann Porper and her husband, William of Gloucester; his sister-in-law, Janice Saputo of Florida and brother-in-law, Joseph Vizena of Gloucester; his many loving nieces and nephews including William Wall and his wife, Grace, William Wall III, Christopher Wall and his wife, Kathryn, Jonathan Wall and companion, Lisa Scola, Josephine Wall, Gina Martin and her husband, TJ, James Wall and companion Erin Jameson, Darren Stanwood and his wife, Shawna, as well as good friends, Edward and Irene Wall.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, John J. Saputo; his siblings, Sebastian “Busty” Saputo, Angeline Verga, Frances Vizena and nephew, William Wall Jr.
Jimmy’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main St., Essex, on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
