Violet "Ruth"'s Story
Violet passed away at her home on June 26, 2016, one month short of her 90th birthday. Violet was the daughter of the late Alice (Churchill) and Alburt Chandler of Travistock England. Violet was the wife of the late Joseph Porcaro of Ipswich and the late John Pino of Gloucester.
Violet made her way to the United States during the second world war, married Joe and resided in Canton, Mass. Ruth (Violet) became a naturalized United States citizen in 1952. Later Ruth and Joe moved to Ipswich with their two children. Mr. Porcaro passed away in 1987.
Violet and John were married on January 4, 1990, and she joined the Pino family. They made their home in Bradenton, Fla., and Gloucester.
Violet enjoyed all her friends at the senior center and enjoyed Thursday lunches with the "girls."
Ruth is survived by Joanne (Pino) and Dana Curcuru; her daughter, Carol, wife of the late Joseph Giabelli; her son, Joseph Porcaro, Anthony and Susan Pino, and Richard and Ruth Pino; grandchildren, Joseph and Mark Giabelli, Kristen Porcaro; step-grandchildren, Kory Curcuru and Dr. Meredith Lockwood, Kortnee and Keith Curcuru, Laura and Stephen Dale, Richard and Jacqueline Pino; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Violet was also predeceased by her brothers, William and Fred Chandler, and her sister, Lillian Cribb, all of England.
Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Saturday, July 2, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
The burial will be held in Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich, MA.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
