Virginia Lee's Story
Virginia Lee (Plunkett) Doane, 89, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, wife of the late Alfred A. Doane, passed away in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016.
She was born on August 6, 1927 in Gloucester, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Rose J. (Mello) Plunkett. Virginia graduated from Gloucester High School where she loved to play sports and was voted “Most Athletic”. She had worked for Sylvania in Ipswich for a number of years and then in Manchester for the Water & Sewer Department. She was a secretary there and she retired in 1987 after 20+ years of service. Swimming and boating were favorite pastimes of hers and she loved to write and she published many articles. One in particular was a favorite and it was in regards to the Fisherman’s Statue and the lives of all fishermen. Virginia was also a reporter for the Herald and the Cricket Press. She will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, John “Jack” Levie and his wife, Jacquelyn (Almeida) of Gloucester, daughter-in-law, Jane Levie of Maine, her brother, Clifford Adams and his wife, Annette of Gloucester; a niece, Dorothy Croft and her husband William; grandchildren Angela Cote and her husband Stephen of Wenham, John Levie Jr. of Gloucester, Derek Levie and his wife, Lisa of Virginia, Alan Levie and his wife Bridgit of Colorado, Sandra Henneman and her husband Dave, Bridgitte Levie of Washington; grandchildren, Robert Muise and his partner, Tara Gove of Gloucester, Michael Muise and his wife, Elaine of Gloucester and many great-grandchildren. Also, a dear friend, Marge Burgess of Manchester. She was predeceased by her son, Ronald J. Levie.

In keeping with Ginny’s wishes, her service and burial will be held privately.
